I was running through a pasture with long grasses and flowers, my long brown hair streaming behind me as the warm breeze picked it up. I slowed down and began to pay more attention to my surroundings. My eyes settled on a peculiar flower and an odd feeling of déjà vu settled in on me I remember this place from somewhere. The flower was the strangest of blues. Like indigo, but lighter, yet still darker and it seemed to look as if I just touched it very lightly it would shatter. As I walked closer it gave off energy that made the made the hairs on the back of my neck raise, flowers give off a healing, happy energy, but this one was full of hate and violence, un-human. I felt like it was watching me and knew that I was here. I started walking toward the flower again and with every step the air seemed to grow colder and stronger with dark energy. I know knew it wasn’t a real flower. I had never felt anything like this, and I knew I should turn around, but I didn’t want too. When I got to the flower the air suddenly went still and my blood ran cold freezing in my veins. I knew I should run, but my legs wouldn’t work. I was paralyzed with fear. Suddenly the flower began to change first rippling, then ripping apart violently as it thrashed around slashing with its limbs. It grew larger morphing into something and its dark energy so strong it made me want to vomit. It was becoming a boy, probably around fifteen, not into high school yet. He turned around, I sucked in my breath. He was gorgeous, brown hair reaching the middle of his ears even length all around but still had that I know my hair looks perfectly messy look kind of like Justin Biebers but way hotter and less gay. But his eyes were what drew me in; they were the same shade as the flower almost black. They were hypnotizing. When I looked away from his eyes I got a strange feeling in my gut telling me I knew him but I knew that I had never met him yet I had a feeling like I had known him all my life. I was searching through my brain trying to think of who or what he is. I knew now that he’s a shape shifter, an enemy of our people, but who he was is a mystery. Just then I realized I had been staring at him for around five minutes. I felt my face turn bright red and I hid behind my hair luckily he broke the unpleasant silence. I would have thought that what he said would have been cocky and flirty, but the three words that he spoke chilled me to the bone. “We Are Coming.” I woke up in a cold sweat, and I quickly turned on the light as best as I could with my shaking hands. Just a dream it was just a dream, I told myself but it felt too real. I looked over at the time. 12:00 a.m... “That’s weird, I said to myself, that’s the third time this week that I had that dream and woke up at that time.” “It must be stress.” But I knew it wasn’t, the nightmares felt to real, like a vision. Then I remembered the boy in the dream, I couldn’t stop thinking about him, I needed to know who he was. But what I remembered the best were his eyes. “I know them from somewhere,” I said to myself. I quickly thought about all of my friends, their families, my teachers, people I’ve seen in magazines, from TV shows, and then about my past boyfriends. None of them had his eyes; I can’t find a way to describe them. I knew what he was for sure though; he was a shape shifter and a powerful one too. Strong ones can take on the form of anything perfectly, but only the ones whose parents are the leaders or the person themselves are chosen ones can possess such power. When I tried to push his eyes out of my head, they just came back like they were following me or wanting me to know something, haunting me. “Oh well, I said, I’ll look for those eyes at school tomorrow.” As I laid down I thought I saw a flash of that haunting blue, but when I looked again it was gone. I must be seeing things I said to myself. I’ll tell Char in the morning.
Chapter 2
As I woke up I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror. “Ugghh!” I groaned. I looked like crap, no surprise there. I went in the bathroom, washed my face, put on some neutral colored sparkly dust on my eyes, some eyeliner, a little mascara, foundation, and barely any blush. I looked in the mirror and I knew I was forgetting something, shoot I had to do my hair. I quickly brushed it out and straightened it. My hair was naturally wavy but it wasn’t the Taylor swift wave’s just soft waves with A LOT of body! I ran down stairs and heated up an eggo. EW, they tasted horrible but after a while you can’t taste them at all. I sent up a prayer the goddess Epona, I call her ell, asking her to let me have a safe day at school and let the dreams not affect my education. Not that I like school I just think that you should have a good education. I ran outside to the bus stop and waited and waited I looked at my watch I’m early but why isn’t the bus coming. I see char, short for charlotte or Charlie, walking up the hill, alone. Thank God. I really needed to talk to her about my dream. Luckily she saw the look on my face and said, “You had another dream last night, tell me about it.” When I was finished she was quiet, but I knew that she was processing what I had just said. Finally she replied, “Does it seem real, the dream, does it seem real to you like it’s actually happening.” “What are you saying Char and it did seem like I was experiencing it.” I said. “I think you are getting visions Brighid.” I knew she was being serious because she called me by my real name. Char continued, “Bri I think that Epona is sending you visions to warn you of danger.” I listened hard to her because I thought she had a point. After thinking I said, “Char I believe you are right, I know that Epona is your goddess too. But I do not think that I am any higher up on her glory list than you are no offense. We are not high shamans or incarnates. So mostly we are on the bottom of the food chain….” Char interrupted me, “Brighid I have been studying the ways of the goddess and many things on our own world. We live on earth but we have our own land, Parlona, where things are very different don’t forget. After researching I have found that there is only one chosen incarnate of the goddess herself and I over-heard my parents whispering last night that the incarnate was found in a pasture dead.” “Char that’s awful,” I said maybe a little too loudly, “what happened?” Char shushed, and began talking. “They said that she was found in a pasture with bite marks and bruises with a knife in her chest. They also found her silver dagger in her hand with blood on it that wasn’t hers. But come we must talk later.” As I walked toward the school chars words chilled me. They found her in a pasture and those past three nights I was in a pasture being warn that they were coming. As I waIked through the huge school doors I sensed that something was different I looked over at char for help but she only gave a slight smile that told me she could feel it too. As we walked further to our lockers people started staring at something. Shoot I realized it was me! I started to freak out and I quickly asked Char if there was something on me. She just smiled and kept walking. When I reached my locker I torn open the door and looked in my mirror searching for anything embarrassing like a zit, really frizzy hair, or food in my teeth. Nope, nothing. I looked up in the mirror again and I saw my face. I was radiating a golden light. I sensed a presence and I knew it was Epona, as quickly as it happened the feeling left, but I felt her words breeze through my ear as she left, “I am with you Beloved”
Chapter 3

The day went by in a breeze and before I knew it Char was pulling me out the front doors of school. We went to our secret spot in the park. It was a clearing with a koi pond, weeping willow trees, and two huge oak trees spaced evenly apart. We were the only ones that knew about it. Char quickly pulled the hidden door shut. “Brighid I have a plan for your visions, Char said, “I want you to try to talk to the shifter tonight, okay? Ask him who he is, what he wants, and why he is telling you this.” But I was still too discombobulated to from Epona talking to me. “Bri, Hello? Are you even listening to me?” Char said as she waved her hand in front of my face. I snapped out of it just before she was going to slap me on my face. “Char I need to tell you something, I said. “what” “I know it might sound crazy but Epona talked to me today—“ Char cut me off, “Bri, it doesn’t sound crazy, with the way you were glowing and acting today a normal person would of thought you were high, said Char, But I knew right away. What did she say?” I remembered her words and how I felt when she whispered to me, like I was the most glorious person in the world. She said, “I am with you Beloved.” Char gasped, “Brighid do you know how serious this is, this means that Epona has made you her incarnate.” “Char you’ve officially have gone crazy, that’s not possible, because I wasn’t born one.” “Everyone has a double in Parlona, on in this world, one there. When an incarnate dies, their double automatically becomes the incarnate. But the people in Parlona only believe that the incarnate has a double, they don’t know that they do,” Char explained to me. “Oh” was all I could say. “What was she like,” I asked, “she must have been my age and pretty mean for someone to kill her.” After pausing to think char replied, “Yes, they said that she was very evil, and if anyone got in her way, she had them sentenced to death, even people who supported her. “People were scared of her Bri; char whispered and looked around as if someone was watching her, “they even hated her, some enough to get someone to kill her.” Char glanced at her watch, “but come on its getting late and you need to have that vision again, night Bri.” “Night.”
Chapter 4
I got home about five minutes later. I unlocked the front door, stepped inside, and locked it behind me. As I was hanging up my coat, I heard a shattering sound upstairs. I walked up the stairs, toward the noise. It was coming through the bathroom, no my brothers room. I walked slowly toward the door, my heart racing so hard I’m sure that if someone where down stairs they could hear it. I knocked on his door and I didn’t hear a response so I opened the door. The room was pitch black, I fumbled to find the light switch, unsuccessfully tripping over something. I quickly stood back up and felt along the wall finally I found the switch. I didn’t have time to switch it on because I was roughly pulled away from the switch and my eyes and mouth were covered with hands. “We’re not alone, so don’t move.” I immediately recognized my brother’s voice. I nodded and he removed his hand. I heard something moving throughout the room, the crunch of shoes on broken glass, then it a thump. Someone cursed; my hand immediately flew to the light switch. Light flooded the room and my hand flew to my mouth and bile ran to the back of my throat when I saw what was standing next to the bed. The only thing I remember next is the thing jumping out the window and my fainting into the glass. I was walking down a freezing dark alleyway. It smelled like mildew and the most acidic, foul, fetid smell, bile raised in my throat. I needed to get out of here, my mom always told me to stay away from places like this because this is where bad things happen. I was snapped out of my thoughts by the sound of running feet as they echoed down the alleyway. I looked over my shoulder and I saw something with a black ski mask over their face raising a gun, pointing at me. I immediately took off in a run, I did track once and I was pretty good at it, until an accident broke my leg forcing me to quit. Even being a fast runner, they were gaining up on me. I looked back again, adrenaline pounded through my veins, he was ten steps away. I forced myself to run, but even as my legs were moving I was still freezing with fear. I saw light up ahead, “yes,” I thought, “if I can just get there, I’ll be safe.” I pushed harder; I was almost there, when I ran smack into a wall. I started to cry, as I panicked with fear. It was a dead end and so was i.
I woke up to the sound of beeping. I didn’t recognize where I was, but I knew it wasn’t my room. My mom was sitting next to me, holding my hand; she called for the doctor saying that I was awake. My head was pounding, like someone was drilling my head and my mouth was like the Sahara desert. “What happened,” I asked. “you were pushed through a window Brighid,” my mom explained, “when you fell you hit your head, so you have a severe concussion. The doctors don’t know if you’ll ever be okay.” It was a lot to take in, but right now I couldn’t even think. Ow.
